About
Hemoglobin A1C (HgbA1c) is usually reported as a percentage (%). This is the unit used for both conventional and SI (International System of Units) measurements in Optimal. Therefore, all HgbA1c results in the Optimal database are presented in percentage. However, in some countries that follow the SI system, it is becoming more common to report HgbA1c in a unit called mmol/mol.
These two units are regulated by different organizations:
- The NGSP (National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program) oversees HgbA1c measurements in percentage.
- The IFCC (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine) governs the reporting of HgbA1c in mmol/mol.
