Your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life, and while your mind may initially go to the dress, the venue, or even the color of the groomsmen’s ties, one crucial part of your wedding’s success is the menu. You can even get a menu designed that matches the aesthetic of the wedding or adds something different.

Personalized Menus

One of the core trends in catering for weddings is personalized menus.

This means that you and your partner have foods that are special to you both, due to the culture of key moments in your relationship. For example, if you had your first date at an Italian restaurant, then you can aim to have a menu based around that cuisine.

Just be sure to ask your catering team for specifics, as some catering services are unable to offer a wide variety of different foods.

Everything is Better in a Tower

Obviously, if you have soup, you won’t be able to display it in a tower. However, if you are serving the standard buffet food at your wedding reception, then why not ask for it to be displayed in a tower?

The best part of these is that they not only add a rather unique look to the eating space, but they can also match an array of different styles. For a more traditional wedding, you can have the food set up on silver platters or even porcelain ones. If you are having a boho wedding, aim for something wooden. You can even have multiple, with one dedicated to sweet nibbles, like grapes and fruits, and another for savory, like cheese and bread.

Grazing Tables

Even though many people assume that grazing tables are a new thing at weddings, they have been around since the late 19th century, but have made a comeback in the last 10 years.

These tables are essentially free-range food, like a buffet with fewer plates, and allow you to create a visually interesting look at your reception, full of different colors and food types. For a more rustic look, you can decorate the space with leaves, branches, or wild flowers. Or, you can have the food laid out on wooden boards.

High-Low Food

A relatively newer concept, high-low food is when simple or available foods, such as chicken nuggets, are presented with higher-end foods, such as a high-class dressing.

Visually, these can be set up in interesting varieties, like a chicken nugget on a skewer, and the dressing presented next to it in a glass, surrounded by gold leaf garnish. It can also be a follow-up on the personalized menu idea, as you and your partner can specifically choose the high or low food to represent milestones in your relationship.

Interactive Food Stations

An interactive food station is exactly what it sounds like; you and your guests get to interact with the food, which adds a personalization option to the experience and makes the wedding more fun.

If you have a budget to splash, you can mix and match the food stations, such as having one that offers sweet nibbles, like personalized crepes, or even a station that allows guests to make their own pretzels. These offer great photo opportunities and can also be a great way for guests to break the ice.

Remember, the key here is to blend good-tasting food with presentation. When looking for catering options, be sure to book taste tests first.
